I made an early start as I wanted to cover as much ground as possible to get to Ningbo. Steve and I had tentative plans to go to Putuoshan and maybe camp on the island. I made good time through the day. It's amazing how much time you can save with fully pumped tires - about 5km/h!
And then, it's amazing how much time you can lose by taking a wrong turn. My phone is an HTC, which I'm mostly pleased about. I haven't had any major hassles with the phone and am quite happy with it. Except it's a Chinese unit, which doesn't come with Google Play. In turn this means no Google Maps. My solution is using a Chinese paper based road map. My logic is to improve my navigational skills old school styles.
Lesson learned. I can't read many Chinese characters so I've been using relying on the road numbers. My downfall is not reading the English when it is signposted. I turned up the G329, going the wrong direction. I didn't go exceeding far the wrong way, but it means turning around and doing that distance again.
Along the way I took in the town of Shaoxing. It's a quaint little place with somewhat historical importance being the ancestral home (not the actual home) of Zhou Enlai and the home of the famous author Lu Xun.. It too has a water town worth exploring.
I spent the night out of the rain in a cheap but clean hotel.
