From Khun Yuam I started hitching a ride to Mae La Noi. Close to Mae La Noi is a calcite cave, one of only three of its type in the world. The others are in China and Australia. I'd set in for a long day of hitching when out of the blue Fong and Rucha offered me a lift all the way to Mae La Noi.
Fong and Rucha are both teachers at a rural school some kilometers into the mountains. We chatted the whole way to Mae La Noi. When we got there Rucha insisted we have a beer before they carry on to their friends house. How could I refuse?
From Mae La Noi I took the short walk to the calcite caves. I wasn't very impressed with the caves. Not what I was expecting from the write up. To its credit it was like being inside one of those rocks that have been cut open to reveal a cavity with crystals in it. Except the cavity is huge and the crystals look like salt plastered to the walls.
From the caves it was a short hitch to Mae Sariang where I checked into the North West Guesthouse.
