I had taken the night train from Bangkok to Buri Ram. It wasn't as restful as my first train ride. From Buri Ram I had to take a bus to Ban Kruat where I met Bill.
I'd decided to start couch surfing because I felt I wasn't getting as much exposure to the local people. I figured staying with people that live in Thailand I'd get a better understanding of the country and its culture. Bill was my first couch surfing experience. I really enjoyed staying with Bill.
Bill is an Australian who has lived in Thailand on and off since 1979. More on than off. We chatted for a while after I arrived. He then offered to take me to the boarder between Thailand and Cambodia where a few months before there was some intense military action between the two countries. Bill told me he was even evacuated from his home for a while.
In the evening I joined him and a few other expats at the local market for a beer or two (three, four, five). That was the first time I'd had a drink since before James and I parted ways.
