On day two of the hike we walked from the forest campsite to
the Dutch Couple Outpost (in future to become an ecolodge). Along the way our guide explained various
plants medicinal and other uses to us.
An interesting and fun activity was being left in the jungle by
ourselves individually. About every 200
meters one person had to stand alone on the path. We stayed in that spot for about 15 minutes
until the first people to be left alone came walking along the path until we
were all together again. It was great to
hear the life of the forest around you alone.
In the evening we went for a night walk and found some very
dangerous fauna, a poisonous spider and the biggest centipede I’d ever
seen. We also walked to a homestead of a
local tribesman. The lady of the house
was crushing rice with a mortar and pestle.
She was doing it very much the same way corn/maize is crushed in Africa. I also got to have a go.
