Trek Day 3

The third day was centred on learning about the tribal people that live in the forest.  We visited two tribes: the Chunchien and the Krung.  I was surprised at some of the similarities in beliefs and customs that some Africans and these tribes have (not surprising when you consider the animistic basis of their beliefs).

We were led through a village with various rituals, buildings and areas explained.  The most depressing part was seeing the school with no children in it.  The salary a teacher would earn isn’t enough to entice anyone to come out to this remote village - $50 per month.  Our guide explained to us that the village elders, parents and children all realise the importance of education and they want a teacher.  They just can’t afford one.
