I had planned to spend the day with a HCMC local but got stood up. This foiled my plans for seeing some of the sights of Saigon so instead I spent most of the day at the War Remnants Museum.
I was expecting to see more about the Vietnamese side of the American War (as the Vietnam War is know in Vietnam - makes sense). But as was pointed out to me the museum is more for the Vietnamese people and focuses on atrocities the Americans and French committed in Vietnam. And atrocities they did commit. I walked away from the museum feeling sorry for everyone involved in this futile war.
As the museum closed for lunch I wondered around town and took in the Reunification Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral and the General Post Office.
In the evening I met up with the students from the previous night. I also invited an English girl, Beth, along with me. I met her in the dorm room we were sharing 5 minutes before I was to meet the students.
We all went off by scooter to a 'secret location' where no tourists would go (as I kinda indirectly requested) to enjoy a dinner of different types of shells. As I'd previously booked and paid for a tour of HCMC I couldn't join Beth and the students on a days outing on the town. I regretted booking the tour from then on.
