Mysterious Myanmar

I had no idea of what to expect from Myanmar before arriving.  I'd heard a lot of good things from travellers I'd met along the way.  But still there is very little know/general knowledge about Myanmar compared to Thailand, Cambodia or any other SE Asian country.

I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived.  There is a good level of English spoken by the population and the folks are very out going and helpful with foreigners.  I'd decided to take local transport to the city centre as opposed to the easier option of hiring a taxi.  This was a wise choice.  I met some friendly people who practically held my hand the whole way to my hotel.

In the afternoon I ambled around the streets gawking at the old colonial architecture that fills the down town area.  It truly reminded me of the days I spent sightseeing in London.  If Saigon is the Paris of the East, then Yangon is the London of the East.
