Not so early we caught the train to Kyaukme
(pronounced Chauk May) to arrange to go on a trek. The South African guy I met in Kalaw had
highly recommended I do the trek with a guy named 9 9 (I can’t spell his
name). Along the way we crossed over a
viaduct build by the British back in the day.
It is a famous sight to see in Myanmar.
We met Erin, a university student from the
States who is studying the Shan people as part of her undergrad, and Peter, a
Dutchman also at university. We would
all do the two day one night trek the following day.
In the afternoon 9 9 took us around to see
some of the sites around Kyaukme. I was
impressed by the bamboo paper factory.
The paper is made to resemble coins which are used in a Chinese festival.
