Off To Mandalay

Rama and I said our goodbyes to Simona the night before and headed to Mandalay in the morning.  Along the way we drove through sections where they were still building the road… by hand!  In my research on Myanmar I had read about this.  But after spending a little time in the country it wasn’t so surprising to witness.

Once in Mandalay I was a little disappointed by the city.  It is a characterless flat dustbowl of a city.  Good architecture but way to many motorbikes.  The noise pollution works on my patience.

In the evening we met up with Franziska as arranged before I left Lake Inle.  There was a tentative agreement that we would travel for a few days but that wasn’t possible.  Franziska’s flight was from Yangon which didn’t give her enough time to explore further into the north.
